Eggs are one of the most popular toppings for ramen. In addition to being a good source of protein, eggs also enhance the flavor and provide a creamy texture to your ramen.

Usually, eggs are marinated in the sauce, cut in half, and then added to the dish before serving. However, there are other ways you can add eggs to ramen. We’re going to talk about all of those in this article.

6 Ways to Add Eggs to Ramen

Below are the six ways to add eggs to ramen that will take your ramen experience to the next level.

1. Hard-Boiled Egg

If you know the basics of cooking, cooking a hard-boiled egg should be an easy task for you. It is a versatile, easy-to-make food that can be added to salads, sandwiches, or eaten by itself. However, hard-boiled eggs can also be added to ramen.

To make a hard-boiled egg, follow the steps below:

Step 1

Carefully place the egg in a pot or saucepan, then pour water. The amount of water should be enough to cover the egg by an inch (2.5 cm). Place the pot on the stove, then turn on the heat.

Step 2

When the water reaches a roaring boil, turn off the stove but let the pot sit on the stove for 11 minutes. This will allow the egg to cook in hot water without being overcooked.

Step 3

Run the egg under cold water so it will be easier to peel. After you are done peeling, you can rinse the egg once again to make sure that there aren’t any shells left.

Step 4

Slice the hard-boiled egg in half, then serve on top of the ramen.

2. Soft-Boiled Egg

Soft-boiled eggs are similar to hard-boiled ones, except for the method used in making them. This type of egg is commonly used in ramen restaurants as it offers a creamy texture to a bowl of ramen.

To make soft-boiled eggs, follow the steps below:

Step 1

In a pot, pour about 2 cups (475ml) of water. Put the pot on the stove, turn the heat to medium and let it boil. While the water is boiling, take out the egg and let it sit at room temperature so that the hot water does not shock the egg, which can cause the shell to crack.

Step 2

Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat until the water bubbles gently. Carefully lower the eggs into the water and let it boil for about 7-8 minutes. If you prefer a runny yolk, reduce the cooking time to 6 minutes.

Step 3

Using a slotted spoon, take the egg from the water and run it under cold water to stop it from cooking. Alternatively, you may also prepare a bowl of iced water and place the egg directly in it for about 30 seconds.

Step 4

If you want to make your ramen experience even better, you can marinate the soft-boiled eggs just like what you see in ramen shops. To do this, simply peel the eggs and place them in a container or a jar with a mixture of 1 part soy sauce, 1 part mirin, and 3 parts water. Place them in the refrigerator overnight. The marinated soft-boiled eggs can be used for up to a week.

Step 5

When the ramen is ready, simply remove the egg from the container and slice it in half before adding it to the top of the dish.

3. Egg-Drop Egg

Another very simple way to add egg to ramen is by adding the egg to the same pot where the ramen is cooking.

To make an egg-drop egg, follow the steps below:

Step 1

If you have prior experience preparing noodles, cook your noodles using a pot with a cover. If this is your first time cooking noodles, feel free to consult the back of your ramen packet for instructions on how to cook it.

Step 2

Add the seasoning, vegetables, and other ingredients that you want to add.

Step 3

While the noodles are cooking, beat the egg in a bowl using a fork until the yolk and white are well-combined.

Step 4

Slowly pour the beaten egg into the pot where the noodles are cooking and stir. However, if you want bigger chunks of egg, wait for about a minute before stirring. Enjoy while it’s still hot.

4. Poached Egg

Poached eggs are similar to boiled eggs, except that they are easier and quicker to make.

To make a poached egg, simply follow the steps below:

Step 1

In a pot, cook the noodles like you usually do. If it is your first time cooking, you can take a look at the back of the packet of ramen for instructions.

Step 2

Add the seasoning, vegetables, and other ingredients that you want to add.

Step 3

When the noodles are almost cooked, turn off the heat and add 1 raw egg in the middle of the noodles. Ensure you rinse the back/eggshell before putting it in.

Step 4

Cover the pot with a lid and let the egg cook for about 2 minutes. Enjoy!

5. Scrambled Egg

An unusual yet satisfyingly good way to add egg to ramen is by making a scrambled egg.

To make scrambled eggs for ramen, follow the steps below:

Step 1

Pour about 2 cups (475 ml) of water into a pot and let it boil. Add the noodles and cook for 3 minutes. You can cook it more if you want a softer texture. While the noodles are cooking, crack an egg into a bowl and beat it with a fork. When thoroughly mixed, set aside it.

Step 2

Once the noodles are cooked, drain and transfer them to a skillet. Mix the seasoning packet into the noodles.

Step 3

Turn the heat to medium and fry the noodles for about two minutes.

Step 4

Add the beaten egg to the noodles. Stir together until the scrambled egg is thoroughly cooked.

6. Fried Egg

More than being a breakfast staple, fried eggs are used in a variety of dishes, such as your favorite ramen! While fried eggs can be added to your choice of ramen, they also go well with dry-style noodles.

To make a fried egg for your ramen, follow the steps below:

Step 1

In a frying pan, fry the egg using oil and butter. Adding oil keeps the butter from burning, thus giving your egg a nice, crispy edge without getting overcooked.

Step 2

Sprinkle a little bit of salt and cook the egg the way you like it.

Step 3

Once done, serve it on top of your ramen and enjoy.
