Black rabbits can be quite distinctive with dark, shiny fur, and many breeds feature rabbits with this coloring.

American Fuzzy Lop Rabbit

American Fuzzy Lop is an American dwarf breed. It was developed from breeding Holland Lops with the recessive wool genes.

American Fuzzy Lops have thick and short bodies. Their ears are floppy, and their fur is wooly or fuzzy in texture.

American Fuzzy Lops have coats that come in various colors including pure black, pure white, and agouti.

Members of this breed are active, playful, affectionate, and curious. American Fuzzy Lops typically weigh 3.5-4 pounds and live for 5-8 years.

Britannia Petite Rabbit

In a bid for rabbits with upright stances and improved bone structure, English breeders selectively bred Polish rabbits.

Since the ARBA had already recognized Polish rabbits as a breed, these selectively-bred Polish rabbits were given their a name of their own – Britannia Petite.

Britannia Petite rabbits are a dwarf breed. Britannia Petites usually weigh 2-2.5 pounds and live for 6-10 years.

They have a full-arch body and a short, soft coat. Their coat is structured in a way that allows for low-maintenance.

While the red-eyed white was the first color recognized by the ARBA, the Britannia Petite also comes in black, sable, agouti, and black otter.

Flemish Giant Rabbit

The origin of the Flemish Giant is not known for sure. However, they were imported into the US from England and Belgium around the 1890s.

Flemish Giants have glossy roll-back fur. They come in 7 ARBA-accepted colors, including black, white, fawn, steel grey, sandy, light grey, and blue.

Flemish Giants are quite large, growing as big as 9-14 pounds. In fact, some have weighed as much as 20-22 pounds.

Flemish Giants are usually 20 inches long, but an individual of this breed has reached 51 inches.

They have semi-arched, well-muscled, long bodies and thick, slightly broad, erect ears.

Members of this breed are docile, friendly, and sweet. They typically live for 5-8 years.

English Lop Rabbit

Some corners claim that the English Lop actually originated from Africa. But the true origin of this breed is still unconfirmed.

English Lops have short, smooth flyback coats. They come in various broken and solid colors. Some of them include grey, black-orange, red-eyed-white, blue, and black.

English Lops are medium-sized rabbits. They grow as big as 9-10.5 pounds.

One feature peculiar to them is their long ears that fall on either side of their body. English Lops are semi-arched, with straight feet and tails.

Members of this breed are friendly, playful, curious, and energetic. They have a lifespan of 5-7 years.

Beveren Rabbit

The origin of the Beveren rabbit is debated. While some claim that they came from England, others believe they come from Beveren in Belgium.

Beveren rabbits have short, soft, glossy, and dense fur. Of the many colors their coat comes in, only 3 are accepted by the ARBA. These colors include solid black, solid blue, and blue-eyed white.

Beveren rabbits reach weights of 8-12 pounds. They are semi-arched with medium length torsos.

Beverens have ears measuring up to 5 inches. These ears take a V-shape on their heads.

On average, Beveren rabbits live for as long as 5-10 years. They are docile, energetic, curious, and intelligent.

French Lop Rabbit

The French Lop originated in France and was created from crossing the French Butterfly rabbit and the English Lop.

French Lpop rabbits come in various colors, including black, white, opal, fawn, steel, blue, and Siamese.

They have long ears measuring 5-8 inches in length. A French Lop’s ears fall to the side of its head.

They are giants with an average weight of 10-15 lbs. and a lifespan of 5-7 years. French Lops have a commercial shape, with dense, soft, and short coats.

French Lops are affectionate, gentle, playful, and docile.

Holland Lop Rabbit

The Holland Lop breed was developed in the Netherlands through a number of crossbreeding blends.

First, a French Lop was crossed with a Netherland Dwarf rabbit. This crossbreeding produced 6 offspring.

From these offspring, a doe was selected and crossed with an English Lop to produce the Holland Lop.

Holland Lops are available in solid and broken color variants. Of the solid-color variants are black, orange, fawn, and frosty.

Holland Lops are dwarfs weighing 2-4 pounds. Their fur is a rollback-type, dense, and medium length.

They have compact bodies, round fluffy heads, and drooping ears. Holland lops can live for as long as 7-14 years. They are noted to be sweet, curious, and energetic.

Havana Rabbit

Havana rabbits are so named because the chocolate-furred variant has a similar shade as a Cuban cigar.

But this breed did not originate from Cuba; it actually hails from the Netherlands.

Havanas have short, soft, and flyback fur, which is available in 4 ARBA-recognized colors: black, blue, broken, and chocolate. The black variant was recognized by the ARBA in 1980.

Havanas are compact, medium-sized rabbits. They typically have a mass of 4.5-6.5 pounds.

On average, Havanas have a lifespan of 5-8 years. Members of the breed are sweet, playful, and calm.

Mini Satin Rabbit

Mini Satins were first successfully created by Leo Collins. He developed the albino world and the red world varieties.

Mini Satins have a glossy, beautiful fur that comes in many colors.

You can get Mini Satins in black, broken, chocolate, blue, otter, red, white, and tortoise, just to name a few.

Mini Satins have compact bodies and weigh 3-4.5 pounds. Mini Satins live for between 5 and 8 years. They are docile, sweet, and calm.

Mini Lop Rabbit

Mini Lop rabbits are a medium-sized breed that originated in Germany. It was developed from a cross between a German Lop and a small Chinchilla rabbit.

Many Mini Lops colors are recognized by the ARBA. Some of the color types available for this breed include broken, agouti, shaded, ticked, and pointed white.

Mini Lops fall within a weight range of 4.5-6 pounds. They are playful, friendly, and affectionate, and they live for up to 5-10 years.

Mini Lops have a compact body shape with medium-length, soft rollback-type fur.

New Zealand Rabbit

They might be called New Zealand Rabbits, but these furry mammals are not from New Zealand. This breed originated in the US around the 1910s.

New Zealand Rabbits are available in 5 ARBA-recognized colors, including black, red, white, blue, and broken.

New Zealand Rabbits are large, weighing 10-12 pounds. Their lifespan is typically 5-8 years, and they are even-tempered, docile, quiet, and affectionate.

They are built with a commercial body shape, thick furry erect ears, and rounded heads. Their fur is soft and of the flyback type.

Netherland Dwarf Rabbit

Netherland Dwarfs are a small breed that originated in the Netherlands. It was developed from crossing the Polish breed with small, wild breeds.

Netherland Dwarfs come in many colors such as black, chestnut, tan, otter, and orange.

Netherland Dwarf rabbits are unique in their size and care. They typically weigh only 1 pound. Their coats are soft, short, and should be groomed every week.

Netherland Dwarfs are a bit wild and do not like being picked up. But with time, they become more calm and tame.

On average, Netherland Dwarfs live for 7-10 years.

Rex Rabbit

The Rex rabbits breed consists of large rabbits that originated from France. They typically weigh 7.5-10.5 pounds and live for 5 -6 years.

Rex Rabbits have a commercial body type, with short, soft, and velvety fur. The ARBA accepts 16 colors for this breed.

Rex Rabbits are available in black, opal, seal, white, amber, castor, and many more.

Rex Rabbits are intelligent, playful, and they do not mind being petted.

If you let them out of their cage frequently, they will grow more accustomed to you. Spending more time with them also warms them toward you.

Black Polish Rabbit

Polish Rabbits are a dwarf breed. They grow as large as 2.5-3.5 pounds. and have a lifespan of 5-6 years.

Polish Rabbits are available in 6 ARBA-recognized colors. They include black, ruby-eyed white, blue, broken, chocolate, and blue-eyed white.

Polish Rabbits are built with compact bodies and short, flyback fur.

This breed of rabbits are typically calm, and they love attention. Polish rabbits will gladly let you carry and cuddle them.

Alaska Rabbit

Alaska rabbits are notable for their soft, short, luxurious, and dense coat. They come in only one color – black.

Alaska rabbits are medium-sized animals weighing between 7-9 pounds and showcasing a commercial body type. They typically live for up to 7-10 years.

Alaska rabbits are calm and non-aggressive. They are affectionate, trainable, outgoing, and gentle.
